New SABC board must fix local broadcaster

SABC LogoThe broadcasting industry in South Africa has long been aware that our national public broadcaster is broken. For years, it has been run like a microcosm of the country, with rampant corruption and no political will to keep its management on an ethical and financially sound course – to say nothing of its failures to properly engage with local producers to grow our local TV production industry.

Channel 24 published an article highlighting how many producers have not been paid for their work, and now face the reality of going out of business.

The new SABC has a plethora of problems to fix at the SABC. Let’s hope they begin immediately to energetically restore sensible and fair management to our public broadcaster.
